PROJECT 1 - Introduction to pen and ink sketching

Objectives:

• One of the most difficult things to do when learning to sketch is to be loose.   Students tend to put too much detail into each drawing and, in doing so, fail to capture the essential essence of the image being portrayed.
• Students, under strict instructions, should use the equipment  to develop their psychomotor skills.
• Students should develop a personal style which should communicate clearly and precisely the visual information to be conveyed.
• Students should demonstrate increased drawing speed as they become looser in delineation.

Tasks:

Using a Micron 01 pigment liner, sketch the image in Paul LaSeau's book, FREEHAND SKETCHING: An Introduction, pages 24 and 25.  Learn how to build the sketch as he prescribes.   Make sure the drawing is larger than in his book to fit in good composition on the page of your sketch book. 

• Students are to "time" their drawings to keep track of how long it takes to complete the work.  Record the time, along with their name (neatly lettered) in the lower right hand corner of your work and the date.  (This is required of each project, each day).
