Introduction
A one-day field trip to the Nelson Atkins Gallery of Art in Kansas City, Missouri, and its adjacent sculpture garden will provide opportunities to observe, sketch and analyze remarkable spatial design at a variety of scales. The trip will give students a chance to study how various architectural and landscape components have been utilized to create a variety of exterior spaces.
Although your studio instructor will provide guidance, the field trip is voluntary and you are responsible for yourselves.
Objectives
To gain insights into the components of landscape architecture, their properties and formal and spatial relationships
Requirements
Sketches done on site. A graphic and written summary analysis of your experiences. All drawings are to be done freehand and may include diagrams, plans, sections and perspectives. Freehand lettering should be carefully crafted.
Evaluation Criteria
Depth and clarity of expression, both through the written word and drawing
