patient room location on site

The patient room is a temporary home, providing security and
comfort to the patients staying at the Therapy Center. The primary focus of the design is
to provide a nurturing and healing environment for its occupants. It is often necessary for patients to spend countless hours
recovering and healing in bed. For this reason, the form of the patient room, both in plan
and section, was strongly influenced by the relationship of the two beds to one another.
The placement of the beds develops a semi-private realm with a closet, display shelf, and
nightstand for each person. From their beds, both patients are provided a view of the
exterior. Additionally, they can easily see doctors, nurses, and guests as they enter the
room. The southern portion of the room can be seen as a zone where the patients can gather
and socialize with one another or sit in the window seat and quietly contemplate. If
necessary, a third patient bed could be added to this realm.
