The Kansas State University College of
Architecture, Planning, and Design is pleased to announce a unique
opportunity to view work by noted architect and educator, John C.
Gaunt, FAIA.
Sculpture and Drawing
will be exhibited in the
Chang Gallery of Seaton Hall from Monday, March 8, through Friday,
March 26. The Gallery is open to the public from 8:00 a.m. until
5:00 p.m. on weekdays.
John Gaunt has been a
practicing architect for over 35 years and has served as Dean of
the School of Architecture and Urban Design at The University of
Kansas in Lawrence for the past nine years. Prior to 1994, he was
with Ellerbe Becket for 18 years, based in Minneapolis, serving as
that firm's President/CEO during the
last six years of that period.
As Dean of KU’s School of
Architecture and Urban Design, he has the responsibility for
strategic direction and management of the School. He is an
administrator and teacher—centered on supporting and enriching the
School’s long tradition of excellence in architectural education.
The academic portion of
his education occurred at the University of Minnesota, where he
received Bachelor of Arts and Bachelor of Architecture degrees,
and at the University of Pennsylvania, where he received a Master
of Architecture in the studio of Louis I. Kahn. Dean Gaunt has
also taught design and drawing at Columbia University and at
Barnard College in New York.
Gaunt’s interest in
freehand drawing for architectural students converges with his
personal interest in recording experience through drawing. This
exhibit includes both his sculpture--assemblages of metal parts
and subversive thoughts from the scrap heap--and sketchbook
recordings of recent travel experiences and local townscapes.
